The Lonely Island: Before “An Snl Digital Short.”
By Comedy Nerds Editor Kristin.
The Lonely Island is one of my favorite comedy groups ever. Before they made it big on Saturday Night Live, they were just a bunch of guys making youtube videos on the interwebz. Here’s five of my favorite things the dudes made pre-SNL.
1 Awesometown is the sketch pilot the dudes made for Fox. Unfortunately, it didn’t make the air. Fortunately, we got to find out that Jorma is the sensitive one.
2 The Lonely Island made a web series called the Bu’,which kind of starts out making fun of 3D movies/shows with the help of Frazzles, the Channel 101 squirrel (HOOBASTANK!), but the show ends up turning into a parody of the OC. My favorite episode is ironically when the dudes don’t do the ‘Bu, which you can watch here.
3 White Power is the Lonely Island’s first attempt at the sitcom format. The guys experiment with teeth whitener…and well…you’ll see. Also, you may recognize a dance move from a certain digital short.
4 The legend is that the dudes were in Florida and came across a band known “The Party Andersons”, a hardcore group that was kicked out of the Orlando club scene. Jorma ended up trading his last beer for this song.
5. Channel 101 had a pilot for FX. Football Town was the dudes’ contribution.
Bonus: This may be my favorite thing that The Lonely Island has ever done.
