Back from Nerdist Live! in Portland!
Talon here.
So I felt compelled to type something about my night with the Nerdist community. I mean, these three guys are the face of a podcasting empire. I’ve heard Hardwick refer to himself as a comedy nerd on other podcasts many times so perhaps the next ‘Big C’ is among you, our readers?
I had heard about the tweet up happening at Ground Kontrol, this sweet arcade/bar, but being a mere 20 years of age, I assumed I wasn’t going to be able to attend. Luckily, the age restrictions didn’t start till 5pm, so I got there around 4:30 and stalked around till I could say hi to Matt, Jonah, and Chris. Might have watched Mira-Booey play a round of Star Trek pinball from a distance with Doctor Who music blasting (this place is awesome). OH! Ron Funches was hanging out too! I assumed he’d show up to the show, but I guess he was just chllin. Portland is his home, afterall.
Anywho, said hi. As soon as I said I wanted a picture, Chris pulled a stool from under the bar and set it up like I was taking a yearbook photo. The three of them crowded around me, commented on my Broadway Video hoodie, and took a photo-bomby pic, and then I got out, and later found myself at the Aladdin theater with a friend. I had to sit in the balcony, because again, being under 21 means you can’t be too close to joke tellers and awesome people.
I’m exhausted from laughing. Matt, Jonah and Chris all did stand-up individually before coming together for a live taping of a hostful episode of the Nerdist podcast. Matt had some stories from that certain fruit-themed computer company, and his family. Jonah talked about booze. Chris talked about hamsters and the things he’s learned from them. You’ll be able to hear the hostful ep later, but I’ll just say a few things. I cried laughing when ‘Siri’ joined the fun. The boys are SO courteous to their fans. The show could have ended 40 minutes sooner, but so many people had quements and they got to ALL of them, even a kid sitting BEHIND me in the balcony. oh, and a VERY special surprise at the end. something I’ve never been present for. but OH MY GOD.
Bottom line, if you can attend an upcoming Nerdist Live event, you should. I pre-ordered a signed copy of Hardwick’s book from the famous Powell’s bookstore in Portland where Chris will be in town again on the 9th. hope this post was coherent, I’m pretty beat.
I certainly enjoyed my burrito.
except a little surprise tomorrow morning.
